German biometric photos are 35×45 mm with the face occupying 70–80% of the photo height (32–36 mm from chin to top of head). The background must be monochromatic and light, with even lighting and no shadows. Since 2025, German authorities increasingly capture photos digitally on-site for passports and ID cards, so check whether your application even accepts a submitted photo.
